Hi.. I am new to this site. I am from Sheffield... just down the road really, but live abroad. Me and my cousin are researching our family tree and we have most of our relatives on my Grandmother's side from around Thorpe Hesley, Wentworth and the Rotherham area going back quite a way. I enjoyed coming up to Scholes in my youth and remember visiting Keppels column ( I think it was in a field).
I am interested in the history of the mines in and around Scholes, Thorpe Hesley. My mother told me that her Grandfather was a pit manager and lost his leg in an accident in the mines. I don't know which mine it was.
Are there any records of the names of the people who worked down the mines at the beginning of the 1900s?
Looking forward to reading your posts on other subjects too.
